About Us

The Usk Valley Conservation Group (UVCG)

Our Purpose: working together to protect & conserve the environment & wildlife of the Usk valley for the benefit of our communities and future generations..

The Past: Originated out of the need to respond on behalf of the local communities to pressures on the USK Valley ecosystem from unsustainable tourism and events which were damaging to the environment and communities.

The Present: the recent purchase of a local 240 acre agriculturally rich and productive farm by the Welsh Government for a Commercial Music Festival Company is a serious concern to us and our Communities. We are now collating and coordinating environmental, wildlife and community data about the farm and intended use.

The Future: Looking forward we will continue to serve our purpose and hope to see increased biodiversity and a clean environment in this ecologically important valley. We also hope to support future environmental projects so as to enhance and maintain species recovery.

Our Beliefs

The Usk Valley Conservation Group (UVCG) believes..

in supporting existing and new conservation projects whilst protecting and investing in our current environment and Communities.

in a local thriving agricultural economy whist supporting the United Nations Environment Programme's 2021 "Making Peace with Nature" . (This report highlighted agriculture as both a driver and an industry under threat from environmental degradation)

in supporting sustainable tourism that benefits the local economy recognising that Talybont-on-Usk and adjacent Usk Valley. Communities are already at maximum tourism and visitor capacity especially during the summer months.
